Players to re-organize into Greenwood Chess CLUB

Page history last edited by Mike Games 5 mos ago

Greater Greenwood Chess Players have formed Greenwood Chess Club.  Club member annual dues provide member benefits, however any non-members of any age and any skill level continues to be welcome to play casual games (with memebers and/or non-members) anytime.  Additionally, non-members interested in learning & imporving will have a club member identified to help.  All ideas to improve player skill, game play, promote chess and club are always welcome.

Members - a membership form and membership card will be created, a date set for dues, meetings at DQ on Tuesday & Saturday do not change and club decisions will be made (initially) by a committee of all those interested in becoming members.  Tenative cost set at $20 annually for all which will be due on/by speceifc date and pro-rated as needed.  Initially dues will be used to pay for us to continue as a Affilliate Club of the US Chess Federation, purchase of a few chess clocks, and prizes as needed.

USCF membership is highly encouraged, but is NOT a requirement of club membership or benefits (including club tournaments or ladder competetion). Note, the members ladder will be used to help determine four (4) travel players (for both rated & unrated).  Players higher on the ladder have 'right of first refusal' to play other clubs.

A few reasons for the change:

- identify players who both enjoy and are committed to better play

- share workload & expense & ideas

- align more with other state clubs

          - opportunity for more (rated & unrated) play

          - opportunity for club champion

          - opportunity to challenge other clubs

          sponsorship opportunities

          prize/award USCF memberships

- determine club membership types & cost

          USCF

          non-USCF

          casual

          senior

          junior/scholastic

          local club tournament entry fee

A few BENEFITS of club membership:

In short, take your game, your hobby, your interest, to the next level !!

…and add a line on your resume, “Member of Greenwood Chess Club”

It will be our mission and purpose to gather together on a regular basis to enjoy chess on a social and competitive level, to promote and participate in chess in our schools and community, to provide for our longevity by actively seeking new members, to be an active and visible part of our community, to always be an organization of good report in the eyes of all who visit or join us, and to provide a place of belonging for all who like to participate in the game of chess. We will never refuse membership to anyone based upon race, religion, sex, nationality, or creed. All individuals of good report are welcome among us for the purpose of more and better chess.

Additionally, (Complimentary Membership) It is understood that while rated, serious chess is the mainstay of a good chess club, there will always be those who only play chess on a social level, or just for fun. This type of player is not interested in a discounted USCF membership or running for club office, they just want to play casual chess. In recognition of this, the Greenwood Chess Club will feature a complimentary membership that is free. The complimentary member will still have his/her information in the club's records and receive club mail-outs, but they are not permitted to play in "members only" club events and may not participate in the club's business affairs. This type of membership requires no renewal, just the one-time completion of a membership application.
