Page history last edited by Mike Games 3 months, 2 weeks ago

Welcome to our chess club. We’re all here for the well-known benefits of playing chess for all ages, skill levels, and experiences. We welcome visitors and the occasional “drop-in” from near and far. All are welcome at The Greater Greenwood Chess Players Club.

OUR MISSION:

OFFER FAMILY FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT TO PLAY OVER-THE-BOARD (OTB) CHESS LOCALLY AND TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT CHESS IN THE GREATER GREENWOOD AREA (THE LAKELANDS) AND SOUTH CAROLINA.

OUR GOALS:

     1. Meet weekly for over-the-board (OTB) play

          a. Casual (pick an opponent or bring one)

          b. Ladder (paired with an opponent to “battle” for your position on club ladder)

     2. Organize small local tournament(s) (both unrated & USCF rated)

          a. Club Quad (Round Robin, format), held monthly and open to all

          i. Grand Prix (GP), points won in Quad accumulate to win a “Grand Prize”

          b. Host USCF tournament for our club players

          c. Host USCF “Greenwood Invitational”, inviting like-rated USCF players from other clubs

          d. Host USCF “Greenwood Open” (open to all USCF players)

          i. June - during Festival of Flowers-June

     3. Travel to other community chess clubs

     4. Prepare players for USCF-rated tournament(s)

          a. State, South Carolina Chess Association tournaments

          b. Local, Greenwood, Greenville-Anderson.

     5. Organize local chess exhibition

          a. Simul or Simultaneous

          i. One high-rated USCF player plays multiple (10 to 20) players at the same time moving from table to table to play a single move until each game ends.

OUR HOPE:

YOU WILL JOIN US AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN
