5th THURSDAY - MAY 29 - 2nd Anniversary Greenwood Chess Club

OPEN TO ALL   PLAYERS FRIENDS - FAMILY

FREE FOOD & FUN

"Knight Tour" / 4-player chess / Bug House Chess / Team Chess / Blitz Chess / & more 

• EVERY THURSDAY - A club of likeminded winners and learners. 

• Social-Hobby-Casual and Organized play for all ages, experiences, and skills. Family-friendly.

• All are welcome to visit at any time from 6 pm until 10 pm with a 'Drop-In' or a 'Stay-n-Play'.

• Organized play from 7 pm until about 9 pm.

1. Players receive a Club Ranking 'Ladder' position to advance or retain, based on the 'Ladder' position of their opponents. 
2. Players receive a Club Rating to increase or decrease based on their opponents rating play in monthly events.

• Fun 'warm up' games from 6 to 7 and fun 'wind down' games from 9 to 10.

• Players and club chess sets are waiting to greet you.  

• 1st  THURSDAY QUAD tournament (Ranking Ladder) - $5.00 and earn Grand Prix points for prizes. Play 3 different players of similar ranking. Cash only and onsite only. All proceeds help with club expenses, equipment, events, prizes, etc.. Play is optional. Social-hobby-casual play is always welcome. THIS IS THE ONE NOT TO MISS! Time Control - G15 / inc5

    

• GRAND PRIX - points accumulate during each QUAD, during each season, and during all 4 seasons (12 months) of the current year. 

• Prizes of cash and medals each 3-month season (Winter-Spring-Summer-Fall) for 1st-2nd-3rd and 4th place for NOVICES & JUNIORS too!

• Prizes of trophies annually to take home for the club champions 1st-2nd-3rd place.

• 1st place is our CLUB CHAMPTION with their name engraved on our club's Perpetual Trophy on permanent display where we play!  

• 2nd THURSDAY - SET OPENING (Ranking Ladder) - Free. All players play a pre-determined 3 to 5 opening moves for a 3-month season. The opening moves are set prior to the first move. It’s an opportunity to learn something new to improve. Time Control - G25 / 0

• 3rd THURSDAY - RANKING MATCHES (Ranking Ladder) - Free. Paired with 1 player of similar Ranking for 1 match of 2 (or 3) games to advance or retain position on club Ranking "Ladder".  Time Control - G25 / 0

• 4th THURSDAY - BLITZ tournament (Ranking Ladder) - Free (not rated, but an opportunity to play a larger variety of players above and below your ranking who you may not normally get to play) - The SWISS format is common for most all  US Chess tournaments. Time Control - G5 / inc3

• 5th THURSDAY - FREESTYLE CHESS (Ranking Ladder) - Free. A chess variant, also known as Chess960 or Fischer Random, that randomizes the starting position of the pieces on the back rank. Players focus on chess TACTICS and fundamental principles. Opening knowledge not relevant or needed. Time Control -  G25 / 0
